Buchanan & Edwards Presents 2012 CEEF Scholarship at GCBS
Buchanan & Edwards (BE) was the presenting sponsor for The Cynthia Earley Educational Foundation (CEEF) for the second consecutive year as part of the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim (GCBS). BE is proud to continue supporting CEEF, a nonprofit that provides college scholarships to student athletes who raise the most funds towards the GCBS charities, The March of Dimes and The Chesapeake Bay Trust.
“BE’s involvement as a corporate sponsor has had a significant influence on fundraising for GCBS charities,” said CEEF and GCBS founder Brian Earley. With the help of BE’s contribution, CEEF was able to award scholarships of $1250 and $1000. Returning winners, 20 year old Taylor Smith and 19 year old Ellen Drake, were recognized and presented scholarships after participating in the 4.4 mile swim. Ellen and Taylor both individually raised the most funds ever by two participants in the history of the scholarship (1999).
GCBS, one of the most sought after open water swims, is held annually at the Bay Bridge Marina on the eastern shore of Maryland. Over 80 eligible student athletes entered in either the 1 or 4.4 mile swim events on Sunday June, 10th. CEEF was founded by the Earley family, including BE employee Darren Earley, to commemorate the life of their mother who was passionate about youth, education and leadership.
