Improving Invoice-processing Time at the USDA
Buchanan & Edwards designed, developed and deployed an automated system for the U.S. Department of Agriculture that reduced invoice-processing time by 34 percent. The automated invoice solution has also led to a reduction in interest payments due to late payment, as well as a decrease in errors and invoice-related help-desk tickets.
The system — which processes approximately 100,000 invoices per year totaling more than $2 billion — matches invoices to receipts. It was created by blending custom system development with interfaces to other relevant systems, including the USDA’s financial system, using existing APIs. In addition to the technology development, Buchanan & Edwards managed the business process changes required to effectively implement the system across the USDA.
