BE currently manages the global Enterprise Collaboration Services infrastructure at the Department of State through operating on the Vanguard 2.3.2 contract. The enterprise services available at DoS center around providing mission critical core services needed to support diplomacy across the world. The core services include maintaining the Department’s SharePoint infrastructure. This environment alone consists of 140,000 users, over 20,000 sites, and 10 terabytes of data. In addition, the team provides core capabilities in support of the Department of State’s main intranet portal site, project management services using Project Server, as well as Enterprise SharePoint search using Microsoft’s FAST Search application. The SharePoint infrastructure has been defined as a critical application by SIO senior management and its uptime availability is critical in supporting the diplomacy mission at DoS.
BE’s support of the Department’s Microsoft SharePoint farm includes providing initial configuration of SharePoint sites. Maintaining the content across an agency becomes challenging unless there are proper controls and training in place to maintain the user community. In 2015 BE was named Microsoft U.S. Federal Solution Partner of the year. Through this partnership, we have developed best practices in managing collaboration and content. These concepts have been implemented agency wide within our service level agreements, rules of behavior, and SharePoint governance documentation to establish standards and control around content management. In addition, our key personnel across the contract are Project Management Professional (PMP) certified professionals through the Project Management Institute (PMI). This core knowledge base allows us to manage projects using best practices defined by PMI as well as to follow strict adherence to the Managing State Projects for IT (MSP-IT) developed at DoS.
