BE Attends Northern Virginia SQL Server Users Group
September 2008 – Vienna, VA
BE’s Business Intelligence Practice Lead, Bob Harford, led the Main Speaker Session at the Northern Virginia SQL Server User’s Group meeting on September 22, 2008. His demonstration featured Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, Dashboarding, and the best practical uses of the Microsoft Business Intelligence Development Studio to create SharePoint dashboards.
The Northern Virginia SQL Server Users Group enjoyed the more interactive format of Bob’s session, where they were active participants in the demonstration – instead of a traditional oration. The presentation basically summed up why Microsoft recently purchased the intellectual property of Dundas Visualization Software for inclusion in SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 – namely geographic information system capability, KPIs, advanced graphics, and drill through capability among other things. Bob Harford explained in depth how Dundas-based reports can be automatically bursted based on a combination of database triggers and report scheduling. The Main Speaker Session ended with an opportunity for participants to interact with Bob and explore these tools for themselves with hands-on exercises. In short, it gave all of the attendees a jump start on creating eye catching reports with a dashboard feel which can be customized and bursted to the target audience.
