Automate Server-Build Scripts
BE developed an automated server-build script for the Department of State, Bureau of Information Resource Management (IRM) Systems Integration Office (SIO), that is able to create a new SharePoint server farm within hours of setting the parameters.

The Department of State, Systems Integration Office (SIO) uses SharePoint farms as an enterprise software collaboration tool. However, the manual process of building these farms is time-consuming, involving several disparate offices and using different wizards and PowerShell scripts for each of the server layers (front end, back end, and data). The process takes up to 17 days once all approvals and testing are complete. Additionally, these manual processes frequently are not kept up to date with the latest server maintenance and patching, resulting in server farms that are built out of alignment and required additional attention.
BE developed an automated server-build script that is able to create a new SharePoint server farm within hours of setting the parameters. This script is easily manipulated to the latest patch set, which results in uniformly configured server farms.
- Reduce server-build time from over two weeks to less than eight hours
- Improve configuration uniformity of farms at time of build with 0 defects
- Average 4 hour reduction to maintenance load time for newly built server farms
- Average 4-6 hour reduction to testing time for newly delivered server farms
